When fourteen year  old David Small looses his ability to speak after developing a tumour on his  neck, he undoubtably begins to question his identity and purpose on this  earth as he silenced by his illness. This calls us to examine how physical  and mental illness affects the identity of an individual and how they come to  interact with their surroundings. Illness can be an identity and life  altering event that may change ones view of themselves, their family members,  and the world as everything that was once thought to be known, has completely  changed.
