In this presentation,  we explore cinema's portrayal of New York City as depicted in Spike Lee's  "Do the Right Thing" (1989). We analyze the effects of how the city  becomes a character in the film through cinematic elements such as  mise-en-scene, sound, and cinematography. Utilizing stills and short clips  from the film, we demonstrate how the city comes alive and mirrors the tone  of the film. Furthermore, we compare well-known New York-set blockbuster  films with Lee's "Do the Right Thing", highlighting why "Do the Right  Thing" is the quintessential New York film. We conclude our presentation  with an appeal to our audience members to see the film and remember that  there is more to New York than the glamorized images of big box office successes.

We will be showing  clips from the film in our presentation.
