Today a single heart  transplant costs over $1.4 million and around 20 people die everyday while on  the waiting list for a heart transplant. However, all of this could change  with improved artificial hearts. This video presents the origin of the  artificial heart as humans began to experiment with mechanical modifications  to extend the lifespan of failing organs. This video also illustrates the  progression of the artificial heart and the materials which allowed each  development to be made. The future of the artificial heart is also  considered, as man strives towards the perfect union with machine and  potential immortality.
